Hi friends,
I hope you’re all gearing up for a return-to-somewhat-normal summer. Given that where I am (Atlanta) the temperature has already reached 90 degrees, I think we’re just about there.
This past weekend was the memorial service for Ryan Tuttle, my co-founder of Dragon Army and probably the person I was closest to over the last 15 years (outside of my immediate family). He passed away on March 17th, 2020 after a 7+ year fight with cancer. I remember the exact date because it is my daughter’s birthday, and it’s St. Patrick’s Day, which was always a special day for Ryan.
Tuesday, March 17th, 2020, if you’ll recall, was also the second day of our stay-at-home mandate. And with my family having two children with serious health conditions (making getting Covid a potential life-threatening situation), we were unable to be with Ryan’s family during this period. And of course, the funeral had to be paused as no one was able to gather in person.
And so we found ourselves this past Saturday celebrating Ryan’s life with 300+ people who loved him. Some of you were there; it was so wonderful to see you.
The week leading up to the memorial I found it tough to focus on writing. Or really anything. I have so many emotions about this man I considered my brother that at times it felt difficult to breath.
I spent many hours (and many tears) going through photos I have of Ryan. As difficult as that was, it was a much needed experience for me. Here are some of my favorites:
The point
I suppose my point is, I didn’t feel up to sharing anything inspirational or uplifting in this newsletter. I just couldn’t do it. So I decided to simply share what I’ve been going through, and I’ll take the time here to thank you for indulging me.
I hope you’re happy,
Jeff
