Hello friends,
Let’s be real. You’re busy. I’m busy. Let’s just dive right into some 💩
(Note: when I type a 💩, I know you’re thinking some kind of dirty word, but I literally think ‘poop emoji’ when I write it. It’s much funnier that way, try it.)
A Leap Day Baby
Legend has it that I was the first Leap Day baby born in Silver Cross, a new hospital in Joliet, Illinois (also important to note that Joliet is the home of a massive prison, which was in fact the prison used in the TV show, Prison Break). Apparently, I made the local paper.
Yes, my birthday is on Leap Day. No, I don’t celebrate it on March 1st during non-Leap years (no matter what my parents say…it’s my birthday, and I’ll cry if I want to). Apparently, some people call freaks people like me leapers, and some call us leaplings, but I’ve never heard either of those before. Call me what you like.
And yes, I’m now the youngest person in my household (I’m 11 years old until Wednesday, making me younger than my now 12-year old son for a few more days.)
Charlie Munger-ing a meeting
I recently had a chance to work with ‘my dragons’ (technically, they’re Jenn’s dragons now, but I still love ‘em all) at a growth summit the team was having. One of the exercises I took them through, which isn’t a new exercise per se, but I don’t think it’s ever been called this, was “The Charlie Munger”.
Charlie was (RIP, Mr. Munger) Warren Buffett’s partner at Berkshire Hathaway, a company I use as a model for Purpose Group. I’m currently reading (and OBSESSED WITH) the book, Poor Charlie’s Almanack, which shares Charlie’s life and business philosophies.
One of his strategies is to inverse problems. Rather than focusing on what it will take for something to work, focus on what it will take for something not to work, and then come up with strategies to make sure that doesn’t happen. Give it a try in your next strategy session. Speaking of strategy sessions…
Purpose-driven…consulting?
Yep. If you need it, I got it.
I’m going to keep recommending this book until you read it
Unreasonable Hospitality by Will Guidara. Also, listen to my podcast episode with Fred Castellucci about his experience in the restaurant industry (he’s the guy behind your favorite Atlanta restaurants), and his slight slant on ‘unreasonable hospitality’, which he calls AUTHENTIC HOSPITALITY. I love that so much.
Oh, and I finally have a survey…
…that I’d love for you to take. It only has four questions, and most importantly, I need you to answer the last question on the list. So badly.
The Point
Y’all rock. That’s all.
I hope you’re happy.
